Awarua Synergy with its partners Southland Warm Homes Trust and EECA's Warm Up NZ, Healthy Homes provide a number of insulation and heating packages to suit everyone’s need.  There are criteria that must be met for eligibility.

  • If you require more information regarding the Community Services Card, please contact the Work and Income (WINZ) office.
  • * Be holder of a valid and current Community Services Card (CSC), or SuperGold Card with CSC endorsement, issued by the Ministry of Social Development (Work and Income/SuperGold Card Centre). OR 
  • * Have demonstrable income-related need and one or more of the occupants of the house has a referral from a registered medical practitioner (e.g. GP, hospital specialist), or a registered nurse (e.g. GP practice, hospital, community) stating that the occupant suffers from a respiratory illness

Choose the right sized externally vented extractor fan for the job, a fan to small wont remove moist air and a fan too large can create draughts, ensure you have automatic controls, such as a timer which runs for 20 minutes after it is turned off.

Cross ventilating by opening two windows in a room can help exchange fresh air faster, if there is fog outside wait until the fog has lifted to prevent extra moisture entering the home

Run heat pump in “Heat” mode not in Auto, if you going out switch off, clean filters regular, get professional to do internal clean every 2 years.

Wrapping how water cylinders and lagging pipes can help reduce electricity costs of heating hot water

Ensure oven, fridge and freezer seals are tight and don’t have any air gaps, to test them place a piece of paper in the appliance door and close, if the paper falls out consider replacing seals to stop the energy leaks.
