Chatham Island Warmer Kiwi Homes
In November, our team travelled to the Chatham Islands to complete assessments across 90 homes as part of a major community‑wide insulation initiative. Following these assessments, we’re proud to share that a significant number of households have now confirmed their installations, and product has already been shipped to the island in preparation for the next phase of work. We’re taking New Zealand’s modern Mammoth insulation — made from recycled plastic and built tough for tough conditions — the perfect fit for Chatham’s homes.
This project is delivered in partnership with the Chatham’s community and EECA’s Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority through the long‑running, highly successful Warmer Kiwi Homes programme, now making its way to the Chatham’s. We understand the unique challenges of living in a remote location (logistics are next level!), and we’re committed to delivering a smooth, well‑coordinated experience for every household involved.
The majority of our installers hail from Deep South Bluff, and for some, this will be their very first time visiting the Chatham’s. There’s a real sense of excitement and pride among the crew as they prepare to support local families and be part of something that will have a lasting impact.
We also want to extend a huge thank you to the locals who have so generously helped our team get to the island. Your support has been incredible — we simply wouldn’t have been able to get this project off the ground without you.
During the programme, Sumaria will also be hosting a series of workshops focused on healthy homes and basic housing repairs on 25th February (more information below).
Our team is genuinely looking forward to returning to the island and being part of this important project. It’s a privilege to support a community that has welcomed us so warmly, and we’re proud to contribute to healthier, warmer homes for local families.

IMPORTANT Prep
Pre‑Installation Preparation
To help our team complete your installation efficiently and safely, please ensure the following are completed before our arrival on your scheduled date:
- The driveway is clear of vehicles to allow easy access for our team and the product.
- Access points into the ceiling or underfloor are free from obstructions.
- If applicable, please ensure any preparation outlined in your quote is completed prior to installation.
IMPORTANT
Completing all pre‑installation requirements before our team arrives is essential. If our installers need to carry out these tasks, additional charges will apply, or the completion of your job may be affected.
Please remove any items in the ceiling or underfloor space before we arrive onsite!
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to be home during the installation?
Not necessarily. Many customers choose to be away while the work is carried out. As long as we have safe access to the areas being insulated (ceiling, underfloor, or walls), we can complete the job without you being present. If you prefer to be home, that’s absolutely fine too.
- How long does the installation take?
Most standard homes take between half a day and a full day to complete, depending on the size of the property and the areas being insulated. We’ll give you a more accurate timeframe once we’ve assessed your home.
- Will there be any mess?
Our team works cleanly and professionally. You may notice a small amount of dust from accessing the ceiling or underfloor, but we tidy up before we leave. We won’t move or disturb your belongings unless absolutely necessary.
- Do I need to prepare anything before you arrive?
We ask that you clear access to the manhole and remove any fragile items from the area below it. If we’re insulating underfloor, please ensure we can easily access the subfloor hatch. We’ll let you know in advance if anything else is required.
