20 years serving the South for Awarua Synergy

08 November 2024

Awarua Synergy, leading suppliers and installers of cost-effective, energy-efficient products for Southland homes, farms, and businesses, are proudly marking their 20th anniversary this month.

Awarua Synergy was developed in 2004 from the Bluff Healthy Homes project, which worked to ensure the people of Bluff had better protection against the cold winter climate.

General Manager Sumaria Beaton-Sikisini said this proved so successful the next logical step was to offer some of its best products, services and ideas to the wider region.

“It’s incredible to think that we’ve evolved from a concept, figuring things out in a wee building on Te Rau Aroha marae, to the successful operation we are today,” she said.

Quickly gaining traction, Awarua Synergy has gone from strength to strength, helping the community better understand the unique needs of a challenging climate and the crucial benefits of living in a warm, dry, healthy home.

“Now we travel throughout the country sharing our knowledge and expert advice with communities as far away as the Chatham Islands,” she said.

People come away from Healthy Homes workshops amazed at the breadth and wealth of knowledge, practical advice and tips that can be used to make a real change in their lives from the minute they get home, she said.

Southland Business Chamber CEO Sheree Carey said her team had recently attended one of Awarua Synergy’s workshop sessions.

“Sumaria provided a really informative workshop for our team,” Carey said.

“It was great to dispel some myths about homes and learn about the easy fixes we can do to ensure our team are warm and healthy. I would recommend all workplaces provide this session to their staff.”

Awarua Synergy also provide the best the world has to offer in products and solutions to help combat the harsh Southern climate.

“We’re not just about insulation – we have heating, hot water, ventilation and LED lighting that would have blown our minds twenty years ago. We’re really out here scouring the world for the best of the best and bringing it home,” Beaton-Sikisini said.

Twenty years may seem like a long time but it’s just the beginning, she said.

“There’s constant change in how we look at keeping a home healthy and we’re right in amongst it. It’s been a wonderful journey so far and there’s still miles to go.”
