Could You Qualify for Home Energy Funding?

Eligible owner-occupiers may receive funding towards approved ceiling and underfloor insulation, along with an approved heater for the main living area.

Warmer Kiwi Homes currently provides between 50% and 90% towards approved insulation and up to 90% towards an approved heater. Additional local support may be available through Southland Warm Homes Trust.

Eligibility depends on the homeowner, property address, age of the home, existing insulation and heating, and current programme requirements.

Up to 95%

Combined insulation or heating support may be available for eligible Southland households.

Final funding depends on confirmed eligibility, programme limits, approved products and property requirements.

What Can Insulation and Heating Subsidies Cover?

Funding is available for specific approved insulation and heating measures. Your home assessment will confirm what your property needs and what may be eligible.

Ceiling Insulation

Approved ceiling insulation for eligible homes that do not have adequate existing insulation.

Underfloor Insulation

Approved underfloor insulation where the floor area is accessible and requires insulation.

Approved Heating

An approved high-wall heat pump for the main living area, subject to heating programme requirements.

Wall insulation, floor-mounted heat pumps and general heating upgrades are not included under the standard Warmer Kiwi Homes grants. Other Awarua Synergy support programmes may have different criteria.

Who May Qualify for Insulation Funding?

You may qualify for an insulation subsidy if you meet the relevant programme requirements.

✓ You own and live in the home as your main residence.
✓ The home was built before 2008.
✓ You hold a Community Services Card or SuperGold Combo Card, or the property is in an eligible lower- or middle-income area.
✓ The home needs eligible ceiling or underfloor insulation.

Who May Qualify for Heating Funding?

Heating funding is more targeted and has additional requirements. Your home generally needs to meet insulation standards before a heating grant can proceed.

✓ You own and live in a home built before 2008.
✓ You hold an eligible card or live in an eligible lower-income area.
✓ Ceiling and underfloor insulation meet the required standard, where insulation can be installed.
✓ The home does not already have an operational qualifying fixed heater in a living area.

Can renters receive Warmer Kiwi Homes funding?

Warmer Kiwi Homes grants are intended for eligible owner-occupiers. Renters may qualify for support through other programmes, including the Healthy Homes Initiative or Meridian Energy Wellbeing Programme, depending on their circumstances.

Is wall insulation included?

The standard Warmer Kiwi Homes insulation grant covers eligible ceiling and underfloor insulation. Wall insulation is not included.
